Rabbi Johanna Installation - Torah Scrolls Restoration

Wednesday, February 18, 2026 1 Adar 5786

All Day for 4 Days

In Honor of the Installation of Rabbi Johanna Hershenson

In celebration of her installation, Rabbi Johanna Hershenson invites you to make a financial gift in support of the restoration of our Torah scrolls, the official tzedakah project of Installation Week.

Your monetary donation directly funds this essential and holy work, ensuring that our 100+-year-old Torah scroll remain kosher, beautiful, and usable for generations to come. In gratitude for your financial support, donors will also be offered meaningful opportunities to learn about and participate in the restoration process with a master Sofer during this historic week.

We ask you to mark this moment by giving generously to this sacred project.

Scroll Restoration Giving Levels:

For any donation from a CABI member:

We invite you to the honor, if you choose, of participating in the actual restoration of our Torah scrolls. The Sofer will instruct and guide us in cleaning the parchment and inspecting the letters during a special workshop day (Wed, 1-4 p.m.). You will receive a certificate commemorating this singular honor.

Yad (Torah pointer), $36 or more:

We invite you to the above, plus an invitation to the Sofer’s Thursday evening Shomrei Torah presentation in the Sanctuary. For every Yad donation, we will also place a yellow leaf on a “Tree of Life” display that will track our fundraising during our Torah restoration campaign, encouraging others to participate in this special mitzvah opportunity.

Klaf (parchment), $180 or more:

We invite you to all the above, plus a wine and cheese reception before the Thursday evening presentation. For every Klaf donation, we will also place a red leaf on our “Tree of Life” display that will track our fundraising during our Torah restoration campaign, encouraging others to participate in this special mitzvah opportunity.

Eitz Chayim (wooden spindles for scroll, also means Tree of Life), $360 or more:

We invite you to all the above, plus being listed as an Eitz Chayim sponsor in our Installation Week program. For every Eitz Chayim donation, we will also place a purple leaf on our “Tree of Life” display that will track our fundraising during our Torah restoration campaign, encouraging others to participate in this special mitzvah opportunity.

Me’il (mantle), $540 or more:

We invite you to all the above, plus the option of placing an ad of your choosing in our Installation Week program. For every Me’il donation, we will also place a bronze leaf on our “Tree of Life” display that will track our fundraising during our Torah restoration campaign, encouraging others to participate in this special mitzvah opportunity.

Choshen (breastplate or shield), $1800 or more:

We invite you to all the above, plus a special session with the Sofer on Sunday morning in which you’ll have the opportunity to participate in inking letters in our scrolls, an honor that strengthens the letters while also strengthening our own consciousness. For every Choshen donation, we will also place a silver leaf on our “Tree of Life” display that will track our fundraising during our Torah restoration campaign, encouraging others to participate in this special mitzvah opportunity. We also invite you to sponsor your selected Parashah in our restored Torah scroll, which will be commemorated on your certificate and in our Installation Week program.

Keter (crown), $3600 or more:

We invite you to all the above, plus a private Havdalah dessert gathering with the Sofer and Rabbi on Saturday night during which the Sofer will engage us in a special conversation about the deep mystical meanings of certain special Hebrew letters, as they’re inscribed in our scrolls here at CABI. For every Keter donation, we will also place a gold leaf on our “Tree of Life” display that will track our fundraising during our Torah restoration campaign, encouraging others to participate in this special mitzvah opportunity.

Please note: In order to be listed in the physical program, donations must be received by Feb. 11th; those that come in after that date will be included in the online version. Any excess funds raised will go to strengthen CABI.
